Interview With Stormy - April 29, 2004
Phone Interview
PornstarEmpire.com: For those that may not know a lot about you, can you give us a little bit of background on where you're from and how you got into porn? I know you're from Louisiana...
Stormy: I started as a dancer, and then I became a feature dancer - and by doing that I met my friend Devon Michaels. And she told me that she was coming out to LA to do two girl/girl scenes - one for Sin City and one for Wicked. And she invited me to come with her - partly for vacation...I had never been to California...and partly to do one of the scenes with her, just so that I would have a video to sell to my fans when I was dancing. And I came out with her, and she had to do a scene with Wicked on the first day and she called ahead and asked if it was okay if I tagged along. I went to the set with her...I wasn't in the movie...and that's where I met Brad Armstrong. And we started seeing each other, and I did my scene for Sin City, and I liked it. She got on the plane to go home, but Brad said if I wanted to stay I could stay with him. So I stayed an extra week and did a couple more scenes...and then I stayed another week...and I kind of never went home! And around July (2002), he took me into Wicked and they were looking for a girl...and they gave me a movie that I was a lead in. And that was Heat, and I did my first boy/girl scene in that, and my first acting...my first dialogue. It went really well and two months later, after the movie came out, they asked me if I wanted to sign.
Q: And were you a fan of porn before you got involved in it...did you know some of the talent by name?
Stormy: Yes. And ironically my favorite movie was Dream Quest, which was directed by Brad. So, of course, when I met him I was completely star-struck - but he had no idea, because I was really cool! I liked Dream Quest and I liked The Gate, which were both Wicked movies. So I was very familiar with Wicked.
Q: Do you have any favorite performers that you enjoy working with...either male or female?
Stormy: For girls - hands down - my favorite performer to work with is Felecia. Sexually speaking. She is, hands down, the best! And I was in love with her since I was like 15 or 16. I even had pictures of her in my locker when I was in high school. I was completely in love with her! And it's funny, because Brad actually got her to do my girl/girl scene in my first movie. He was like, "I have a surprise for you!" And then Jessica Drake is also one of my very good friends and one of my favorite girls. Every time we do a movie together, the chemistry is really good. She's a great actress. And as far as guys, I really like Julian. I think he's absolutely gorgeous. And sexually speaking, I like Pat Myne.
Q: You and Pat recently got married, didn't you?
Stormy: Yes.
Q: And how's that going?
Stormy: Great. As a matter of fact, he just came home about a half an hour ago with the keys to my brand-new house. We just bought a house today.
Q: I'm assuming you met Pat on another shoot?
Stormy: The funny thing is, no I didn't. I knew his name, but I didn't know what he looked like, and I had never worked with him. I met him in a hallway in Las Vegas...I didn't meet him on-set...we had never worked together, we had never seen each other work. So it was as close to a normal meeting as you could possibly have in porn.
Q: And did he know who you were?
Stormy: Yes, he knew who I was and because I had heard his name before, I knew who he was. And I was like, "Oh hi! I've heard about you!"
Q: And now that you guys are together, will we be seeing you working with Pat in more Wicked projects?
Stormy: Yes. He was retired for a year. He was just under contract to direct for Metro. But his contract doesn't extend to performing, because he had retired. So he actually recently did two movies with me. One of them is coming out very soon...it's called Highway, and it stars Jessica Drake and me...and I wrote it, and he's my boy/girl scene in the movie, and it's a really good movie. I can't wait for it to come out! So, I actually talked him out of retirement!
Q: I wanted to bring up the fact that you have been doing a lot of writing for Wicked. Is that something you really enjoy doing, and how did you first approach Wicked about writing scripts?
Stormy: I love to write...I did a lot of writing when I was in high school. I had a couple short stories, poems and things published. And then I quit writing for a while, because I was just too busy. And when I was with Brad...he writes his own scripts. And he's a very talented writer. He's very good at what he does. But he doesn't really enjoy doing it. It comes very slow to him, because he doesn't like to do it. And I was like, "I can write a script!" And he kind of looked at me like I was insane. And it kind of pissed me off! So, I locked myself a room and wrote a script. And I finished it up and I gave it to him...and he read it and he really liked it...he said "Wow! I'll shoot this!" And he did, and it was Kink. It was written for Devinn Lane - but when I wrote it, I didn't put my name on it...we decided that we really wanted to know what people thought of it before going "Oh, Stormy wrote it!"...and pat me on the head. So we didn't tell anyone about it until we wrapped. And I just started writing after that. I started doing it for him - because we were together and I knew he didn't like doing it, and it came quick and easy for me. And then a couple of other companies knew that I was writing and started sniffing around, so when Steve (Steve Orenstein, owner of Wicked Pictures) resigned me, it was for me to write also - exclusively for Wicked. And I've written...I think...eight or nine of their movies, five of which have been shot. So, I'm pretty excited about that.
Q: Do you have any plans to expand - perhaps produce a movie or direct one?
Stormy: Yes, I start directing this summer. My contract is to write twelve scripts and direct one or two, depending on how my first one goes. I'm directing my first project...it's in the works now - so sometime in the next couple months.
Q: As far as being in front of the camera, do you have any favorite sexual positions or things you especially enjoy doing?
Stormy: I like giving head. I'd much rather give than receive...orally speaking. For some reason getting doesn't do that much for me...unless, of course, you're Felecia! I love to give head, and my favorite position I think is either missionary - because I can be very lazy - or standing doggy in the shower...everybody knows that!
Q: Are there any scenarios or fantasies that you'd like to explore on-camera that you haven't had the opportunity to yet?
Stormy: I haven't been with two guys. So I want to try that. I've done three ways with another girl, but I've never done a three-way with two guys.
Q: Working for a company like Wicked, most of the material they do is very plot-driven. Which means you're often required to do a lot of acting. Do you enjoy that part of it, or would you rather just shoot the sex?
Stormy: No, I love the acting part. That's one of the reasons why I chose Wicked over some of the other offers that I had. Everything that I've done has been features. I've never done a wall-to-wall, and I don't want to. Not that I don't enjoy the sex, because I do, but I enjoy the acting as well - so if I can have both, I'd rather have both. I think it's a lot of fun to be a character. I really enjoy it. And as a writer, it's more fun too.
Q: And out of the roles you've played, do you have one or two movies that you really thought you did a good job in or really enjoyed playing the characters?
Stormy: I really liked Princess Hubba Hubba in Space Nuts. She was fun, because she was such a bitch! She was a lot of fun to play. Highway, which hasn't come out yet - it comes out very soon...I watched the screener for it and I think that my acting has really improved from watching a couple of my first movies. But I think that my favorite character of all to play was a character that I played in Suspicious Minds. I wrote it especially for myself, and she's a complete airhead. Completely ditzy. And when she has sex, she assumes the alter ego of "The Princess". So, that was fun!
Q: As far as your personal life goes...since you've become an adult star, have you been recognized by people in public?
Stormy: It doesn't happen as often with me as it does with Pat. He gets recognized all the time. And then they kind of sit there and look at me and figure out who I am. But he's done 950-something movies, and I've done 40. But yeah, it happens...and the funny thing is that it's happened in the McDonalds' drive-thru like six or seven times! There must be big porn fans in McDonalds! But it's happened a lot at the McDonalds' drive-thru! And then it's happened a couple of times when I was out shopping. I actually had a guy come up to me while I was at an outdoor café on Melrose and ask me to sign a DVD. And I'm thinking, "Do you just carry this around with you?!" But so far all of my encounters have been really nice. They're always really nice and polite...nothing creepy or rude.
Q: As far as friends and family - primarily those back in Louisiana - do they know what you do, and what has their reaction been to your career?
Stormy: Everybody knows. There's no hiding it in Baton Rouge! When I go home, there's a club that I go back and dance in, and when I'm in town people that I don't even remember are like "Are you that girl that became a porn star?" Actually, a lot of people are very cool with it. My friends and family are fine with it. My mom knows what I do, and she watches all the softcore versions of my movies, and she's got all my magazines and my 8x10s.
Q: What about your hobbies and interests? What do you like to do in your spare time?
Stormy: I have horses. So that takes up pretty much all of my free time. Pat rides too, and I'm teaching his daughter how to ride...we have three horses. So that doesn't leave a whole lot of free time. If I'm not writing or riding, I do love to go to concerts...I'm a total groupie, and anybody that knows me will tell you that. I like to go to three or four concerts a month.
Q: What are your favorite groups?
Stormy: You're so going to laugh at me!
Q: Don't worry...I'm a total idiot when it comes to music...I never listen to the radio!
Stormy: I like rock and heavy stuff. Motley Crew is my favorite band ever. And Poison...and Metallica...and right now I'm really into Linkin Park...I like Linkin Park a lot. And I usually go with my best friend, Shelby Stevens, because Pat is a complete punk rocker...he likes punk and I don't like any of that.
Q: How much longer do you plan to work in the industry, and what are your plans for when you do decide to stop performing?
Stormy: I think about that a lot, and somedays I'm like "Okay, I might be done pretty soon." Because I'll look in the mirror and I'm like, "Is that cellulite?!" And then other days, it's like "I'm having so much fun! I want to do this for five more years!" But I think that when it's done, I'm definitely going to keep writing and directing. And I love to dance, so I'll keep dancing for as long as I can. But I do want to stop in a few years and have a family and whatever else.
Q: But would it be safe to say staying in the industry in some capacity - be it writing or directing - is something that you want to do?
Stormy: Oh, definitely. I don't think I'll ever be completely out of it. Especially considering that my husband is a director and go to sets with him. But I'm having fun and I really enjoy my job.
Q: You've already mentioned that Highway will be coming out soon - can you give us an idea of what projects we'll be seeing from you in the coming months and give us an update on your official website?
Stormy: I actually just completely revamped my website - www.stormydaniels.com. I changed webmasters and we completely redid it. We added a lot more hardcore. It's dirtier! And I've gotten a lot of positive feedback on that. And Highway, of course, is coming out...you'll definitely have to check that out, it's one of my favorite movies I've done. And I also have another movie coming out. It's kind of a tribute to my winning Starlet of the Year. And I'm pretty sure that's the name of it:
Stormy: Starlet of the Year. And it's actually a compilation that has two new scenes in it, that have never been seen...and I narrate it and kind of tell my story of where I came from and how I got there. I think a lot of fans will be interested in that.
Q: Well, I want to thank you for your time, and wish you all the luck with your career, your marriage and your new house!
Stormy: Thank you!
Interview With Stormy - January 31, 2004
On The Set of <i>Portrait</i> in Los Angeles, CA
PornstarEmpire.com: Its been a busy year for you.
Stormy: Yes it has! It's been crazy - Where should we start?
Q: Let's start with ... you won an award. An AVN award.
Stormy: Yes, I just won AVN's 2004 Best New Starlet.
Q: How did it feel to win an award?
Stormy: I almost pissed myself. I was very, very shocked and flattered. So much so that I bet $500 on another girl, because I thought Jesse Jane was going to win. I actually wound up winning. So I got an award but lost $500.
Q: How does it feel to come from when I first met you, basically off the bus from Louisiana, to being one of Wicked's biggest contract stars?
Stormy: How does it feel? It feels Amazing. Success is great. I didn't think I would do it at all much less do it in less than a year and a half. Just to go from nobody to coming from Louisiana to California on vacation. Not even coming to be a Pornstar. Not only did I become a Contract Girl and Best New Starlet but a writer and a director, and a wife! It feels good, of course. I worked hard.
Q: You mentioned the D word...What are you directing?
Stormy: I have to direct my first feature this spring. I have to write it first but I don't know what I am going to do.
Q: What's it going to be about?
Stormy: I haven't decided. I have to write twelve scripts a year for Wicked. When I decided which one strikes my fancy and I want to keep for myself I will.
Q: What's it like being under pressure to write?
Stormy: It sucks! It sucks. Let's be honest here. It sucks. Last year I was cranking them out like you wouldn't believe. Every time I got on an airplane I wrote a script. Now, knowing that I have to write, they're stifling my creativity. It's hard. It's harder knowing that you have to do it. Harder, not impossible. I'm still doing it.
Q: What's your favorite genre to write in?
Stormy: You know what, I don't think I have one. I wrote Kink, which is a suspense movie, and I wrote Suspicious Minds, a comedy, and then I wrote Highway and Born Bad which are action. I wrote Without You, which is a light romantic story. Done it all. And I wrote Lover's Lane which hasn't been shot yet, which is a horror movie. It's a porno-slasher film.
Q: Of the movies you shot for Wicked, which are your favorite?
Stormy: Three Favorites ... Heat, Space Nuts and Suspicious Minds.
Q: Let's talk about the commentary of Space Nuts ...
Stormy: Oh God! I have single-handedly caused the ban of alcohol on commentary sets, I think. Okay - What do you want to talk about? I don't know what you're talking about.
Q: You have no knowledge...
Stormy: I don't remember...Commentary I did a commentary...? I know that half way through I did my first anal and my first ATM, and I proceeded to talk shit about somebody and get myself in a whole lot trouble. Then I got and fell off the stool.
Q: Did you have fun doing it?
Stormy: Um-hum. I thought it was fabulous. I've been told it was the best part of the DVD.
Q: Now personally --- You went out and got yourself a new man...
Stormy: Yeah!
Q: And you got yourself married...
Stormy: Yeah. And I did it all in thirty days!
Q: How's married life treating you?
Stormy: Good.
Q: Is it challenging being married in this industry?
Stormy: You know what, because we are both in the industry it makes it easy. He's on my sets, I'm on his. I think if he was a "Civilian" I don't think most people would even attempt it, myself included/
Q: Are you still going to do Boy/Girl scenes with other guys?
Stormy: [nods] We had never worked together but we did this together [Wicked Pictures' Portrait] which is good because he's the only one that loves me enough to run around naked in the garden.
Q: And do you have a website yet?
Stormy: Stormydaniels.com
Interview With Stormy - April 26, 2003
On The Set of "Without You" in Los Angeles, CA
Pornstarempire.com: I am sitting here with Stormy, cross-legged as she eats, in a purple "woobie". I have no idea what a woobie is.
Stormy: A woobie is a comfort blanket. A lot of us have them. Jessica Drake has one. DoLorian has one. And there's plenty of others.
Q: Is there like a pornstar competition to see who has the best woobie?
Stormy: Apparently there is and I was not aware of it. Jessica Drake and I both have purple woobies. But she just informed me that hers is indeed softer than mine. That's okay. My boobs are bigger.
Q: Do you think this will lead the adult industry into selling woobies as adult toys?
Stormy: [laughs] Yeah, the blanket fetish.
Q: I just heard you wrote the script for Without You.
Stormy: Yeah, I did write it. I wrote and I'm in it.
Q: So do you want to take my job?
Stormy: [laughs] I am. I am after your job.
Q: So do you want to be a writer?
Stormy: That's what I always wanted to be. That's kind of what I studied. I never went to college, but that's what I studied in high school. Took all the creative classes, all the advanced English classes, and was editor of the school paper. So it just came naturally.
Q: I am going to ask you the annoying question every writer gets asked... where do you get your ideas from?
Stormy: Believe it or not they come to me as I am lying in bed, right before I fall . I actually hate that because it ruins my . I am wide awake and I have to write it down.
Q: Now I met you almost a year ago... Just off the bus. Shortly thereafter you signed as a contract girl with Wicked Pictures. What made decide to sign with Wicked?
Stormy: I wanted to get a contract because its better exposure, and of course you get the leads in better movies. Mostly it's better exposure and better publicity. You are taken care of. I choose Wicked - before I even signed. They were the movies I watched. So it was natural that I would gravitate towards the company that made the movies I liked. And I got luck, and they [Wicked] actually ended up signing me.
Q: Now how has your life changed as a contract girl?
Stormy: As opposed to when I was not under contract?
Q: Yeah.
Stormy: Less work. I'm more in the loop. I definitely get treated with another level of respect. And its put me more out there I think. Getting recognized. Better overall treatment, I think.
Q: Do you enjoy the recognition?
Stormy: Yes. It's very funny. I get recognized at McDonalds. More than any other fast food restaurant!
Q: Now does it ever get intrusive? Do you ever want them to go away?
Stormy: I haven't had that situation yet. I'm not well known enough, I don't think.
Q: You've also been in L.A. basically a year too. How are you liking it?
Stormy: I really, really like L.A. There's more stuff to do. The weather's great. I miss Louisiana. I miss the food. My friends there, even though I have met some wonderful friends here. And I just miss the general, overall niceness of the people there [Louisiana]. And I hate the traffic here.
Q: What's the biggest difference between Los Angeles and Louisiana?
Stormy: The size. It's so huge. I remember the first time in the Valley I stayed in Sherman Oaks and I thought that was L.A. A few weeks later I went somewhere and we went Over The Hill and I was like, 'Oh, what city is this!?' and he goes, 'Uh, L.A.?'
Q: Now have you met anyone famous?
Stormy: Pamela Anderson, Kid Rock.
Q: Are you ever in awe of anyone you meet?
Stormy: No, not really. They're just people.
Interview With Stormy Waters - August 17, 2002
On The Set of "Falling From Grace" in Los Angeles, CA
PornstarEmpire.com: How did you get into the adult film industry?
Stormy: That's a funny story. Let's see... I always wanted to do adult films and I didn't know how to get in. I had a friend that was coming out here to do a girl-girl scene, and she said, "Hey, what don't you come with me, you can hang out, or whatever", and I said, "Sure why not!" She was doing a scene in Wicked's movie Making It, and I went onto the set with her where I met Brad Armstrong. She introduced me to some people, he (Brad Armstrong) introduced me to some people, and a couple months later she went home and I stayed.
Q: Why adult films?
Stormy: I was a dancer and I had done magazines so I was comfortable with nudity and comfortable with sex. I've always been a porn fan so I just kind of fell into it naturally I guess.
Q: How has working in adult films affected your personal life?
Stormy: Oooh, you had to ask that one didn't you! [laughs] As far as when I came out I didn't really have family or friends to speak of. My mom knows what I do so there was no big family drama, no big religious drama, or anything like that. So that wasn't a problem. I didn't think getting into it would have an effect on my personal life. But since I've been here... It's kind of weird to be with some one and have to share them, and have to learn to separate real life, real sex from porno sex, and I am still doing that?
Q: Is it hard? (Pardon the pun.)
Stormy: Yeah, yeah it is.
Q: So your family does know. What was there first reaction when you told them?
Stormy: I really don't have a lot of family. The only person I do have is my mom and she was just like, whatever. She had already seen all the magazines layouts and stuff like that so it wasn't a big deal. She likes to see the soft versions of the movie.
Q: What is the biggest misconception about working in the adult film business that people have?
Stormy: I was really surprised at how normal the people are. I was expecting... I was thinking like Boogie Nights. Since I've been here - I've been here for three months now - I haven't seen any of that. I've seen a lot of really good people, loving couples. It really is just work. The people are really, really cool.
Q: Is it hard work?
Stormy: Physically, it can be. I've been in scenes were I was just dying. It was so hot, the position was just so uncomfortable... but then I've done some were its just been in and out. So it just depends. Each scene is very different. The reverse cowgirl is hell on your thighs. But it's good... a good workout.
Q: Is that the one position you hate to do?
Stormy: I don't hate to do it, but it's the one were I am like, "Oh, god"...
Q: Is there anything on screen you won't do?
Stormy: I haven't done anal. I don't have any plans to do any. But the saying, you know, "never say never". Probably not never, but probably not for a very, very long time. That's probably it. I won't do interracial. Not because I am prejudiced. But because I am from the Deep South and that is the one thing my mom begged me not to do. They'll like burn a cross in our front yard or something.
Q: Is working in the adult film business as glamorous as people think it is?
Stormy: Yeah. I did a movie about a month ago, and I was the lead. They really go out of their way to make you feel like a princess. You get the hair and the make up and the cool outfits.
Q: What is the best part about working in the adult film business?
Stormy: So many things - it's hard to pick a best part. I really like the fact that you get to be beautiful all the time, and the sex is really good, of course (if the people are trained professionals, and know what they are doing). I really like all of it. It's all very fascinating still.
Q: What is the worst part about working in adult films?
Stormy: Waiting around, that's the worst part.
Q: What do you prefer doing? Girl-Girl or Boy-Girl?
Stormy: Actually, I like both. I love women, I think women are beautiful, so being able to be with women is really cool because its okay. It's less work as far as the physical part of the scene. But I enjoy the sex more with Boy-Girl because I am very afraid of hurting the girls. I can't cut loose as much (with girl-girl), because when I cut loose I am not afraid of hurting a guy. I hate to get crazy then have a girl go, "Ow!"
Q: When you are with a person in a normal, intimate situation (not on film) do you ever feel like there is an expectation you have to live up to being a porn star?"
Stormy: I haven't had that problem yet because the person I'm seeing now is the only person I've been with in my private life since my first film and he's in the business too.
Q: Do you ever get tired of sex?
Stormy: Not yet, but I am still very new.
Q: How much acting goes into the sex scenes people see?
Stormy: It depends on how detached the character you're playing is from who you really are. Like the scene I did yesterday I played a normal girl who's having normal morning sex with her boyfriend in a bed that's not really acting. But if you do a scene were you are a character it's different, because you have to have sex and remember to stay in character.
Q: Do you ever want to move into non-adult, "mainstream" acting?
Stormy: Doesn't everybody? But it's not something I have my heart set on at all. If I get offered something, sure great, but I'm not looking to break through into the normal film industry.
Q: Where do you see yourself in ten years?
Stormy: In ten years who knows? I hate to jinx myself. Hopefully financially secure and happy and hopefully having a long career that I am not ashamed of. Where I can look back and say isn't this great and this is what I have to show for it. I never sold myself short and I never let any one take away my dignity.
